What Epoxy Flooring Actually Is
Epoxy flooring is a resin and hardener mixed together and spread over prepared concrete. When it cures it forms a single seamless sheet bonded to the slab. That sheet is hard, nonporous, and resistant to oil, water, and abrasion. Unlike paint, which sits on the surface, epoxy chemically bonds to the concrete. That bond is what keeps it down.
The coating seals the pores in the concrete. Bare concrete drinks oil and water, and once those soak in you cannot get them out. Epoxy shuts those pores. Spills sit on top and wipe up. The floor stays cleaner and the slab underneath stays healthier.
Where Epoxy Floors Make Sense
We install epoxy flooring anywhere a hard, cleanable surface beats bare concrete. The most common spots are garages and patios, but the same system works in shops, utility rooms, and light commercial spaces. The build changes based on what the floor has to handle.
- Residential garages that see cars, oil, and hot tires
- Patios and covered outdoor concrete
- Workshops and hobby shops
- Retail showrooms and light commercial floors
- Laundry rooms and utility spaces

How We Install an Epoxy Floor
Every job starts with prep. We grind the concrete to open the surface and remove old coatings, oil, and laitance. Then we fill cracks and repair spalling. The epoxy goes down on clean, profiled concrete so it bonds.
We apply the system in coats. A base coat wets out the slab, then a color coat or flake broadcast goes down for the look you want, and a clear topcoat seals it. The whole install usually takes a day or two depending on the size. You walk on it the next day and park on it after about 72 hours.
Choosing the Right Epoxy System
Not every floor gets the same coating. A garage floor that takes hot tires needs a build that resists hot tire pickup. A showroom wants a smoother, glossier finish. A shop floor may need a non slip texture added to the topcoat. We talk through the space with you and match the system to the use.
Decorative flake is the most common choice for garages. It gives you color and texture, hides minor imperfections in the slab, and comes in a range of blends. Solid color and metallic epoxy floors work well where you want a cleaner, more uniform look. We will show you the options and help you pick.
